Not far from Ypres we ride into the driveway of a cosy farm (1) where we enter a Walhalla of herbs, flowers, vegetables and fruit. We take the time to fathom the wonders of nature and then ride up to the hills a bit further.
After a passage over the Kemmelberg (a cycling classic) we arrive at a charming small scale winery (2). The passionate owner shows us around and reveals his wine secrets. We lunch at the edge of the vineyard with an insane view over the wide surroundings. The noble nearby restaurant takes care of our catering needs.
Then we head for Vleteren, the beer region par excellence. It goes without saying that our next stop is a brewery (3), where the whole process from hops to beer is unveiled. We close it off amid the hop fields with our feet in the soil, enjoying the local beers and delicatessen.
